Day 1

Arrival to Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport OR if you are already arrived to Budapest, breakfast at your hotel.

In the morning hours departure from Budapest with your local guide and your private transfer to Poroszló, at Lake Tisza. This is the second largest lake in Hungary and its open water surface is mosaically cut by islands, backwaters, shallow canals. The shores of the lake offer an excellent destination for all kind of travellers. The guests stop at Poroszló, where the Lake Tisza Ecocentre is located. The centre offers visitors permanent and temporary exhibitions located on several floors, as well as a conference room, a 3D showroom, a playroom and a scenic lookout tower. The main attraction of the Lake Tisza Ecocentre building is the largest freshwater aquarium system in Europe with a total capacity of nearly 1 million litres: its spectacular design together with underwater wonders offer a unique nature experience. From the Ecocentre pier (that is operated seasonally (from early April until late October)) the guests can take a pleasant boat trip on the lake. This one hour long trip on the water provides an unforgettable experience for all visitors.

After visiting the Lake Tisza Ecocentre, the guests will have free time for a walk or for having lunch in their own in Poroszló.

In the afternoon depart to Debrecen, Hungary’s second largest city.

Day 2

Breakfast at your hotel.

Full day walking program in Debrecen. Debrecen exudes the feel of a pleasant provincial town with its colorful piazzas and spacious parks, that will be visited during the day.

First the guests visit the main square of Debrecen, where the town’s symbol, – one of the nation’s largest Reformed churches, a building of major historic significance – the Reformed Great Church can be found. The church was built in Neo-Classicist style and can house up to two thousand people. The building was renovated at the beginning of the 2010s, when a panoramic bridge was built between the two towers, offering a spectacular view of the town and the main square. Today, in addition to its role in religious life, it regularly serves as a venue for sung services, organ recitals and classical concerts. It is a place worth visiting during the stay in Debrecen.

During the day the guests have free time in the town, for having lunch on their own.

In the early afternoon the guests visit the Déri Museum. The Déri Museum is one of Hungary’s foremost establishments of its kind. In addition to its exhibits of local cultural interest, it has become renowned for the huge collection of items, brought together by Frigyes Déri, which represents various aspects of universal human civilization. The museum’s main attractions are the awe-inspiring Christ-paintings of Mihály Munkácsy.

After the museum visit the guests take a walk in the City Park of Debrecen (Békás-tó). The park of Békás-tó is situated in the middle of Nagyerdő, parkforest of the city. Nearly 20 hectares of neglected forest were turned into a vivid, popular public park, which is able to act like a representative “green core” of the city and a place for citizens, tourists and nature-lovers to relax.

Day 3

Breakfast at your hotel.

After checking out from the hotel, we take the guests to the beautiful Hortobágy. The Hortobágy National Park, an almost flat landscape is the biggest Hungarian national park to date, also a world heritage, a Ramsar site and a Biosphere Reserve. A large chunk of the national park is a silver tiered Dark Sky Park. Europe’s largest contiguous grassy wasteland still preserves memories of the old shepherd’s world. Even today we can see a herd of gray cattle grazing peacefully in Hortobágy, galloping horses and foals, shepherds herding sheep flocks, boom wells nodding lonely, we can explore the countryside in a horse-drawn carriage or we can even go on a wilderness safari to spy the endless horizont.

The first stop on this day will be at the Hortobágy National Park Visitor Centre. The exhibition on the groundfloor displays the natural history of the Puszta and its rich flora and fauna. Saline plains and marshes and saline oak-woods as typical habitats are shown by dioramas and preparations of various species. After the visitor centre the guests have a look to the Hortobágy Shepherd Museum. At the exhibition you can get a great insight into the lives of the shepherds and you can see their handmade clothing, tools and beautifully decorated items of personal use on display. Before leaving this amazing land, the guests visit the Máta Stud Farm where they can have an amazing carriage ride experience. You get to ride in a horse-drawn wagon train across the prairie, making stops at large thatched barns to peer into the pens of racka sheep, see great grey cattle grazing, witness semi-wild horses being herded and watch Hungarian csikósok (cowboys) perform tricks, including ‘five-in-hand’ galloping – standing balanced on the back of two horses, with three more reined in front. At their café the guests can have some refreshments.

In the late afternoon, after the visit, transfer back to Budapest.
